Oh I am so sorry Holly (and you) are going thru this. Poor . Is she still improving? I have never experienced this before. What are the signs if I ever need to take Zoey for this. ((((HUGS)))) Kay

Kay, usually a dog with anal gland issues will scoot or bite at their butt, but Holly gave us no warning whatsoever. The only way I knew something was wrong was her shaking and tucking her tail on Sunday. We had no idea what the problem was until the vet checked her all over -- I just knew that something was definitely wrong. I'm getting ready to put a call into the doctor right now with an update. She feels good, but that one glad is still spongy. Hopefully it's inflammation, but we'll see what he says.

Thanks for asking Kay She's doing really well as far as acting like her normal self. She still has that enlarged gland, but the vet said he suspected that it was cellulitis/inflammation. We're supposed to go back Tuesday or Wednesday, so hopefully she'll be finished with this mess by then.

Ok, hopefully this is the final update for this thread! We went to the vet tonight, and he squeezed her glands and got more junk out in the form of paste (it's supposed to be liquid). He thought it was very important to infuse her glands again, which involves his big finger, a syringe filled with antibiotic creme, and her butt! We told him we couldn't put her through that again, and he assured us that it would be nothing like the other night because she's no longer swollen and painful back there. After much debate, we told him he could start, but if she screamed, we were stopping. Needless to say, this guy thinks we're total crazies! Well, Holly was a little champ. NO crying at all! He got both glands cleaned out, so now it's up to us to keep using the hot compresses and keep expressing the glands to make sure only liquid is in there. Then she should be fine, and hopefully this will never happen again!

Well, it wasn't the last trip to the vet! We were at my regular vet's office to day to have her check the glands because they seemed swollen to me and nothing was coming out. She went inside (OUCH) and got some thick stuff out of the right side again, and nothing from the left. She has a ton of inflammation and the vet gave her a 14-day antibiotic shot and she's back on the anti-inflammatory pills. She has to go back in 7 days and have them cleared out again. It wasn't too awful, although Holly would loudly disagree with me on that Gosh, I hope this is over soon!
