For anyone who read my poo thread , you know I want to find a food that produces solid stool every time. I've been feeding Solid Gold Just A Wee Bit for quite some time. I thought it was a good food because it's holistic, but it only rates 4 stars on the dog food analysis. So...since high protein, no grain food seems to be all the rage now, I tried Wellness Core (6 stars - the highest rating). She absolutely LOVED the taste of it, but she was constantly smelling her butt and seemed to be very uncomfortable (like she was constipated or thought she was having gas or something). I never smelled gas, so I don't think that was it, but hubby was insistent that I switch her back to her old food right away because he didn't want to see her so upset. So...now I'm switching her to Wellness Super 5 mix Small Breed. She loves it too!! It's not much different from the solid gold, but it rates 5 stars, so I'll give it a shot. When I discussed it with my vet, she said to be very careful feeding a high protein food to an older dog (not sure why she mentioned this since Holly's 2) because it can cause kidney failure Good to know! So I'm just wanting to know what you all feed your dogs in case this food doesn't work for either and I need to try again

I am feeding the RC Urinary mixed with some RC puppy 33. I am looking for a good food as well to feed Zoey. I am trying to stay away from the high protein until I find out for sure if she as a liver shunt. For treats I went out and bought yoguart drops and pupcorn as they are both low protein treats. I will be watching this post I know so many people on CP are crazy about Orgeiin (SP)but I am not sold on it. I'm sure it's better then the RC though

According to my vet, she considers anything above 32% protein to be high, and some of those foods are in the 40's! Wellness core is actually only 34%, so I was okay with that, but I'm too chicken to try Orijen at 42%. Also, I think Holly is too lazy to need a really high protein food The super 5 mix I've got her on now is only 28%, the same as the Solid Gold wee bit.

My guys did fine on Royal Canin Chihuahua I just stopped feeding it to them because Teddy one day got real finicky about eating it, little did I know it would become a pattern We also tried Natural Balance Sweet Potato & Venison Formula which was suppose to be easy on sensitive stomachs like Teddy's. Everything was going great on that food until there was a recall so I switched to Chicken Soup. I had tried Chicken Soup one other time and again Teddy decided to stop eating it but when the recall happened I didn't have a lot of options as to which food to switch to so I went back to Soup. I used to put yogurt or chopped meat on Teddy's food to get him to eat it. Dinner he usually ate without a problem but breakfast was usually a struggle. When he had giardia awhile ago I stopped putting all the "extras" on his food and since then he's been gobbling down both meals plain It's really surprising because Teddy was always a picky eater. So now no "extras" on their food ever. They also get 1-2 green beans each day. Woody gets a few apple and pieces and Teddy just gets apple. Then I break up a Mother Hubbard biscuit that I give them throughout the day. Both have lost weight which they both needed to and they both have normal poops.

I just bought some mother hubbard veggie treats that I'm going to use once I get her entirely switched to Wellness I know it's bad, but a lot of times I crush up a piece of a crunchy cheeto on her food to get her to dive in

I read that a dog will eat when it wants to and not to force them to eat. I did try to get Teddy to eat every meal for a long time. I would no longer do that if he suddenly decided he didn't want to eat one of his meals. I would nix the Cheetos but that's just me I used to feed Oreo such crap some of the time. This was over 11 years ago back when there wasn't talk about good and bad foods for your dog and there weren't any forums either. Oreo later had to have teeth removed that although my vet said some dogs can have teeth issues while others won't I always blamed myself for his condition because of what I fed him That's why I'm super strict with T&W.

I feed mine orijen, I have been told to feed small dogs higher protein food, but to be carefull once they got old. I personally think it one of the best foods there is really. Mine thrive on it and my cats love it as well. I had no problems at all since feeding it, all their coats have become softer and shinier since feeding them it
