Hello, Im sorry if this is kinda long. Zoey had her first heat in Nov/Dec she was so swollen. Toward the end of her heat she started leaking alot of urine after urinating. I took her to the vet and she was put on 2 week of antibiotics. She had slight crystals in her urine. She got beter then only 3 days off the meds the urine started leaking again (aftr pees). Back to the vet we went. Another 2 week course of antibiotic now 3 days off the antibiotic she is leaking again after pees. It is not just a little bit its alot. I really like my vet but should I take her to another one? Poor Zoey it's driving her nuts. Thank so much, Kay

Poor Zoey I don't have any experience with dogs in heat but I agree with Jayne if it should have stopped but hasn't I would get a 2nd opinion too Are you going to breed Zoey?

I just made a appointment for a second opinion today. They sound way more thorough then my other vet. She goes in at 230. I don't plan on breeding Zoey. I had a appointment ot have her spayed in Oct but had to cancel it because of her bloodwork. She had a ALT of 83, ALP 172, Platelet count of 588 and BUN of 41. So I put it off. Am suppose to have the blood work repeated this month. Maybe today. I don't want to go through another heat. Thank so much, Kay

Well I took Zoey to a new vet. I did not get a good feeling about her at all. I did get Zoey on a new antibiotic Cefa-Drops for her UTI (only 7 days). I had her blood work with me from Oct and the vet started talking about a liver shunt and that being the cause of Zoeys UTI's and crystals in her urine. Zoey has no classic signs or symptoms of a liver shunt. I have an appointment to go back and see my reg vet on the 14th. I made the appointment with him this time not his assistant. She will have bile acids, blood panels and urine with cultures. I just want to know for sure. I have adjusted her diet a bit and cut out some high protein snacks such as cheese (which is her favorite) until I know. And I joined the Yahoo Group on Liver shunts. SO I have been busy reading up on all this stuff. Talk to you soon. OH the calenders are ready. Zoey did win. She is on the cover (with Tricias Holly and 3 other cute chis and shes on Jan and April Holly is MS Sept. It is really cute it's through cafepress. Thanks again, Kay

I hope her bloodwork comes back good. I don't know anything about liver shunts, but I'm sure you're feeling very overwhelmed right now. I do know, from experience, that it sometimes takes several rounds of antibiotics to get rid of UTI's with crystals. Hopefully that's all that's going on. The calendar looks great, doesn't it? I'm so excited to get mine
