The vet suggested yesterday that Teddy go on a low residue food and gave me a bag of Iams. He just got over giardia and his poop sample that I brought in to have checked was very soft and not formed that's why she suggested the food change. I'm not 100% convinced it's his food and might just be that he starting eating regular food after having chopped meat and rice for a week. Plus I had cut out his treats, apple and and he suddenly was able to eat them again. Can anyone suggest an alternative to Iams? Every time I have to switch foods it makes me so tense with all the different opinions out there and I really don't know which to try.

After thinking it over I'm not ready to switch his food because I don't think it's the issue. But if anyone has any suggestions for good low residue foods please post them

What do they mean by "low residue"? I would never recommend Iams after everything I've read. My vet always said Science Diet, Iams and Eukanuba were the good foods, and now I understand the vets all get kick-backs for pushing that food If you look at the dog food analysis, all three rank really low

"Low Residue means that there isn't really any filler (cheap, non-nutritious ingredients used to make the food weigh more). The majority of the food will be used by your dog's body, while only a small portion will be discarded as waste."
I should mention this isn't my normal vet and some of the stuff she said just didn't jive with me.
My guys are eating Chicken Soup now and I think it's a good food. I was considering Wellness but when I compared the two they seem to be similar foods. If Teddy continues to have problems I can always try Wellness.
But I don't think it's the brand of food but that my guys are getting too much during the day and that might be why they poop a lot. I'm going to reduce their food and treats and see what happens. I think as a snack things like green beans will be a better alternative to the Mother Hubbard bones they've been getting. I know Woody could be a little lighter and has recently seemed rounder to me.
