Hi guys! I'm still alive! It's been an interesting several months, and I just kind of closed myself off from everything and took up reading (which I'm still in shock over, because I've always hated to read and now it's my favorite thing)! The bottom line is, Holly's got a bum liver. Her bile acid tests are super high -- definite shunt level -- and she had a couple seizures. HOWEVER, I don't think the seizures were caused from her liver problems, but rather from a pill she was taking (long story). Anyway, we decided to put her on the liver diet and the liver supplement and keep going on as if nothing's wrong. I just can't see risking her life on a surgery where 1/3 of the dogs don't make it. If you saw her, you'd think she was the healthiest dog alive. She's active and happy. We go every several months for bloodwork to keep an eye on her numbers so we'll know if things are getting worse. For now, I just pray every day that she stays as good as she is. She just turned 4 last month, so here's a picture from her big day

Tricia it's so good to hear from you! I'm sorry to hear that Holly's levels never came down but I think it's very positive how healthy she looks and happy she acts That's such a sweet photo of her I'm not much of a reader although I wish I was. I have a problem keeping my mind from wondering whenever I try to read anything that's somewhat long. Have you read any books you can recommend? There are a few in my family that LOVE to read and are always looking for something good

I always hated to read because I couldn't keep focused either! But then I got the Sookie Stackhouse series, and because I love the show so much, I found them soooo enjoyable -- I actually read a book a day! Since then, I've gone online to find "if you like sookie, you'll like these..." books, and have been reading like mad. They've mostly been in the paranormal romance category. JR Ward and Gena Showalter have some awesome series out there if you like that kind of thing

Hi Audrey, nice to see you again. Thanks for the compliment I use a Nikon D40. I love it, but there are a lot of settings on it that I still don't know how to use ;D

Tricia *hugs* I am so sorry to hear this about Holly. Have you joined the Yahoo liver shunt group? They are just wonderful with food suggestions and everything. Many manage the shunts with diet alone. Holly is just as beautiful as ever. And Lucky to have such a good mom.
