Hello, My first chi "Rusty" lived for 22 years and he ate the worst/cheapest food and most of the table scraps. I am worried that Zoey is to skinny so I want to give a bit of people food to fatten her up. Can it really be that bad ? She is eating Orijen and Royal Canin mixed now. Although she picks out thr RC and eats that first. Thanks so much, Kay C

Kay, it depends on what kind of people food you're talking about. My dogs have always gotten little bits of bread/biscuits, which the vet said is fine. I also add boiled chicken breast to her food every day. There are people foods that are toxic, but other than those, I would say sweets and fried foods should be avoided. Popcorn (not buttery) is a good snack (just pop the heads off and give it to her). Holly loves nights when we have popcorn Good quality treats are another way to add weight. For instance, my vet said the nylabone edible bones are fine, but will put weight on a dog because they have a lot of calories. If weight is what you need, I know Zoey would love those.

Thanks Tricia, I have been sneaking her a bite of Mac & Cheese, bits of pork chop and pasta. She just loves people food. I would rather have her on the Orijen but I added the RC because my Roxy used to eat that when it was all the rage, and she loves it. I know it's not the best but I am trying to get her to gain a bit of weight. I will look for those bones as well. Thanks again Tricia. Kay

You can also try Chicken Tenders, they have them at Walmar and Target. They have sort of a /rodeo doggy theme on them.
