Oh Tricia I'm so sorry I remember someone on Chi People had a Chihuahua with a shunt. I don't remember what she had to have done to fix/control it but I remember her Chihuahua was fine. That's my only experience with a shunt. Please keep us updated. My thoughts and prayers are with you

I will have you and Holly in my thoughts and prayers. I hope things turn out OK. When Zoey had hers, after the first fasting draw they let me take her hame and feed her and bring her back 2 hours later. The later # is the most importsnt, it will show much stress is put on the liver after a feeding. The Yahoo liver shunt group is awsome. The treats I found to be lowest in protein were yogurt drops and pup corn. Beth on CP "Rebel Yell" has a liver shunt dog. She is so knowledgeable in the field. If you need her she is awsome...*Hugs* to you and yours....Keep us posted..

Thanks ladies. I'm a nervous wreck. Tomorrow is her test. My vet insists on keeping her there, which really bothers me, because she doesn't do crates! I intend on pushing her to let me just stay there and hold her for the two hours tomorrow. I hope she agrees, otherwise I will really go crazy. I'll let you guys know in a couple days when I get her results. I've been reading wayyy too much stuff on liver shunts on the internet -- sometimes I think ignorance is bliss!

I bet she'll let you stay and hold her since that would be so much more calming for Holly Praying all goes well tomorrow I did the same thing with Woody as far as reading everything I could about his condition. I do wish I hadn't read everything I did while it was happening. Were you able to get in touch with the member at CP that kayc mentioned?

Well, she had her test today, and the vet did allow me to take her for the two hours instead of making her stay. So that was the good news. However, she just called and already got her results. They're bad. She has to go next week (or whenever I get the appt.) to get an ultrasound done. I'm just beside myself and can't believe there is something so seriously wrong with perfectly healthy-acting dog.
I appreciate your concern, and yes Jen, I know Beth on CP that has the dog with a shunt. Luckily Holly doesn't suffer from any of the problems he does (at least not yet).
I'll let you know what we find out next. Please keep praying for her.

Oh Tricia I'm sorry I wish there was something I could say to take the worry away. I do think it's a really good sign that Holly is acting normally. I would guess whatever she has going on was caught early. Please keep us updated. I'll keep you in my prayers
