Any of you that have kids know what it's like when the first one gets with the throwups. About twelve hours later the second one starts and so on down the line. Been there done that. Well NOW Ernie has diarrhea. Poor little . I got up this morning and he had pooped all over the house. *groan* what a mess. He tried to make it to the pads, but sometimes he didn't. He sleeps with me and the totally amazing thing is that he didn't have one accident in my bed. Poor little fella, he kept getting out of bed last night. I didn't get much sleep. He's too little to get back up so he'd come to the side of the bed and cry until I put him back in bed. I just thought this was some new thing he was doing, never thinking about him being ill, and figured I would just close my door tonight. Charlene seems fine now, eating good etc. Do you think I need to take them to the vet or do you think it's just a virus working it's way through the pack? We are so freaking broke, that unless the vet will take payments I don't know how we are going to manage. I'm cooking rice and for him today.

Oh no poor Hope he's feeling better soon. It does sound like a virus making its way through them all doesn't it!? Might be worth keeping an eye on how he's doing before rushing down there. They are so expensive

Poor Ernie! And poor you for having to clean up all that mess It does sound like a virus since Charlene is better now. I don't really think you have to take them to the vet for diarrhea unless they start refusing to eat and drink and get real lethargic. The vets are sooo expensive. Keeping my fingers crossed for you that it passes soon!!

I gave a a couple tablespoons of rice and NO seasoning at all, and he gobble that all down. Then he had another bout of diarrhea. I'm going to see if they will do a stool sample test without me taking him in. :-( He's a little fella and I am worried.

Oh no poor Ernie I bet your vet would check his poop without you having to bring him in. When Teddy was rechecked for the giardia I didn't bring him in. You can also provide them with a bigger sample for them to look at at if you do it that way. Since they try to lick and eat all sorts of icky things it's hard to know what causes them to have bouts of diarrhea. I hope he's back to normal real soon

I know that in the past when I've had to switch Holly to rice and chicken (she didn't do well with , so I always use boiled chicken), she would have a couple more diarrheas after she had her first bland meal, but then it would stop her from pooing at all for about a day before more firm stuff started. Hopefully he's just getting the rest of what was inside there out and the bland meal will do the trick very soon Good luck!

Thanks everyone... I hate it when one of them is . I got a sample, just in case they will test. My poor little babies.

Lin who knows what Ernie has but the vet did tell me if you refrigerate poop it will kill the giardia so they told me not to do that. I don't even know if it's a possibility he has it because I have no idea how Teddy got it. Just thought I'd mention it.

Thanks Jen, I have typically refrigerated their samples but not this time. Wheeewwww. I just don't know what to think. Charlene seems fine now, stool all back to normal but Ernie's diarrhea seems so bad. I can't wait for Phil to get home.

Maybe you could call the vet and see if they could give you any advice without bringing him in These links have some helpful info, especially the first one. Acute and Chronic DiarrheaDog Diarrhea
