Holly's giardia was found on a routine puppy visit where they made me bring a stool sample. She had never had runny poo at all, so it was basically inactive in her body. They gave me the treatment, and it made her not be able to sleep! Don't ask me why - we had a puppy that slept perfectly every night since we had gotten her and this made her seem like she had a constant belly ache. So she went through her first round, and then you have to wait 3 weeks for the retest because the test can't differentiate between alive and dead cells, so they have to have a chance to be all gone. Then the second test, and positive again! They gave the same wormer medication but in pill form instead of powder this time. Now she has gotten diarrhea - BAD! So we go through the second round of treatment, wait the three weeks after, and at this point her diarrhea is so bad, I already know the answer to this one! This time I had a different vet than my regular one because it was her day off, and she gave me a different medication (one that includes an antibiotic for the belly), and she also told me that I should have been giving her yogurt the whole time she was on the treatment because those wormers were just stripping her belly of everything, including the good stuff. The third round went great, and her poos started firming up, and it was gone! Not a fun time, but it's where we first learned about yogurt, and that's Holly's favorite thing now!

Wow that was a lot for Holly to go through as a puppy The medication she gave me is called Metronidazole and they're tablets. Hopefully they'll do the trick in the first round

Just an update. Teddy didn't poop yesterday and hasn't gone yet today. I'm guessing the rice might have caught up with him so I gave him apple. He's acting totally normal and I have to think if there was anything else going on the vet would have felt it since she did give him a complete examination yesterday.

Lin I don't know why I didn't see your post about Ernie's experience with having blood drawn. Poor little guy I tell you it's so hard to watch them go through things like that I would much rather it was happening to me instead.

I'm happy to say his is more formed but it's still not back to the normal consistancy yet. He's on the medication for 5 days if by then he's not 100% normal I'm suppose to bring in a fresh . They did the original test with the sample they took there which was very small. You know I totally forgot we had that poop smiley until Lin used it
